PUTTING UP THE CHRISTMAS TREE is a brand- new nativity musical sung whilst sitting around a Christmas tree. It consists of 13 beautiful songs for children age 5 and upwards and if sung without any additional speaking parts or traditional carols the duration is approximately 20 minutes.
It can be performed easily with very little or no movement by one or more groups or classes and even lends itself to being sung by the whole school: as some of the shorter songs and choruses of the longer songs are easy enough to be sung by children in Reception.
Costume suggestions are...school uniforms or party clothes for the school children; with one child dressing as the teacher. The stable can be recreated by an optional backdrop display or a group of children dressed in traditional nativity costumes. For larger groups of children who want to wear a costume - mice are an easy option as I'm sure there would have been plenty in the stable!
The main prop is a partially decorated Christmas tree with a few decorations on hand so they can be added by the child playing the role of the teacher during the performance.
If you want to make the performance any longer - one or more of your favourite traditional carols can be sung after Song 4.
The main focus of this short musical is to remind us of the traditional Nativity story of the birth of Jesus and the reasons why many people celebrate the joyful festival of Christmas.
