This resource teaches the times table in a unique way… it is a book of mathematical rhymes (or raps) which gives the answer first!
An example of how the TTTs can be used in whole class teaching
This is how it can be used at home or for small group teaching in school
This resource teaches the times table in a unique way... it is a book of mathematical rhymes (or raps) which gives the answer first!
Each times table has a theme for the children to associate it with; for example...the 2 times table is about a hen, whilst the 12 times table has a fraction theme which is more appropriate for older children.
Each times table uses the same format: a rhyme after the 3rd, 6th, 9th and 12th part of the table; enabling each times table to be learnt in 4 easy chunks.
Each pack comes with 2 bean bags containing natural beans which, due to the ‘crunching’ sound made when caught, can be used to keep the beat whilst throwing and catching to another person. (The extra bean bag can be used for a child who needs 1-1 teaching).
One pack is needed for each class so it can be used little and often. As demonstrated in the whole class video- the children can stand up and do any actions you come up with as a class; whilst saying the raps. Alternatively, 2 children throw and catch 1 beanbag at the front of the class- whilst the other children tap their knees if sitting down, or clap; air punch etc in time to the beat whilst saying the rhymes: to follow the beat and tempo being set by the children throwing and catching. The children have to watch and listen carefully in case the tempo suddenly becomes faster or slower!
I have found this method gives an easy strategy for remembering the times tables rather than just guessing. It also reduces stress which some children can feel when asked to answer questions in timed conditions.
